This symposium promotes disaster resilience by exploring the many ways that knowledge, resources, technologies and strategies are multiplied through collaboration and partnerships. Disaster risk reduction (DRR) has been found to be the most cost-effective way to reduce or eliminate the otherwise tremendous costs brought about by emergencies, disasters or crises. DRR requires much thought, planning and resources; all are expensive, although the return on their investment is often high. Collaborative effort, often through partnerships, is one of the most effective ways to reduce the costs of DRR. The program of the 16th Symposium will focus on strategies and tools to enhance such collaboration.
