As technology becomes increasingly complicated, in an effort to defend against hackers and to ensure robustness under as many conditions as possible, disaster recovery plans need to similarly grow in complexity. With this growth in complexity, however, it has become increasingly easy to overlook small details which can have big effects on your plan’s coverage, and your organization’s ability to return to normal operation.
To help highlight these areas of potential oversights, the Forbes Technology Council asked 16 of its members what essential factors people often missed, when putting together their plans. Among the key concerns highlighted were:
- Regulatory Reporting, to ensure all internal notifications are performed, and external notifications are submitted
- Establishment of protections for backup data
- Identification of key personnel, and considerations as to how to perform the plan if those individuals aren’t available
- Building relationships with law enforcement, to ensure critical evidence from cyberattacks can be identified and preserved
