Video on Demand

When it comes to disaster situations, eyes on the ground can be of great assistance to emergency personnel heading to the scene. A smartphone app, GoodSAM, in England aims to provide livestream video to doctors and paramedics, according to Wired UK. “From the clinical point of view, the really amazing thing here is the ability to open people’s mobile phone without the need for an app or anything like that,” Mark Wilson, founder of GoodSAM and neurosurgeon at Imperial College London, told Wired.

Features of the system, developed with input from the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Trust, can include the ability to locate nearby emergency professionals and transmit visuals on the prospective patients, letting first responders gauge the extent of injuries, pulse and pain levels. The system is currently on trial for six weeks in air ambulances.

“The hope is that using the smartphones in everyone’s pockets can help direct the right resources to major incidents and to understand where critical interventions are most needed,” reports Wired.
