Emergency management based on the involvement of community groups is starting as preparation for extreme weather events in Toronto, according to the CBC. Green 13 and Community Resilience to Extreme Weather (CREW) met with emergency management officials including the City of Toronto’s Urban Forestry and Office of Emergency Management, Toronto Hydro and the Red Cross in January, along with Ward 13 city councillor Sarah Doucette, reported the CBC.
“Our core message is ‘neighbours helping neighbours,” said CREW co-founder Sheila Murray to the CBC at the roundtable meeting.
Toronto recently became a member of the New York-based, Rockefeller Group funded, 100 Resilient Cities group, which was formed to respond to “three major trends impacting cities: urbanization, globalization and climate change,” reported the CBC in a previous article.
