Under the Weather: Canada’s Weather Network remains unable to send notifications after a recent cyber attack

A recent cyberattack has left Canada’s Weather Network unable to send push notifications to subscribers and is consequently directing users to alternate tools until service can be fully restored. Says Karen Kheder, director of communications and administration for parent company Pelmorex, to the CBC, “alerts can be found on our Storm Centre page until our push notification functionality is back up and running,”

With Hurricane Lee hitting Canada’s east coast, the Weather Network is instead recommending people in affected areas check out their storm coverage on both the television channel, and digital platforms. As for progress in recovery from the attach, Kheder told the CBC that “some services are already up and running and Canadians can also expect to see a steady restoration of more services and weather information.”

The Weather Network states that the cyberattack was related to a third-party software provider.
