Tweaking the Process: What can your organization do to speed up their incident management?

For incident response, time is money. Any delays can result in further exposure or loss of critical data or increased harm to a company’s reputation. With incidents on the rise as organizations face more COVID-19 related scams, consider examining your incident response processes to see if improvements can be made.

According to an article on IT Pro Portal, common weaknesses include excessive specialization, which prevents the sharing of tasks among multiple resources, poorly defined problem management processes, which slow the direction of issues to the proper resources, and limited problem reporting tools, which interfere with the ability of individuals communicate all needed information effectively. Perhaps the most critical area for improvement is with respect to the gathering of accurate and complete data early in the incident response process, so as to better understand and react to the scope of a problem.

By focusing on these areas of incident response, turnaround times can be greatly shortened, helping both customer satisfaction and the bottom line.
