Thinking Big: There are certain threats for which every organization needs to be prepared

The exact threats to which your company might be exposed will vary greatly depending on both the industry and the location. There are, however, certain threats which are almost universal to any organization, and for which it’s vital that you have a risk mitigation plan in please to help minimize the damage, should they ever occur.

For the purposes of planning, these threats, according to Security Magazine, are:

  • Severe weather – whether hurricanes, wildfires, droughts, tornadoes, flooding, or winter storms, there’s no part of the world that is immune to the threat of hostile weather, and companies need to carefully consider what natural disasters they may be subject to, and ensure their sites and employees are kept up to date on how to react should such a disaster occur
  • Active shooters – with the frequency of mass shootings growing, both in and outside the workplace, organizations should consider the implementation of both improved security measures, and appropriate training, to help protect employees and keep them ready to react
  • Economic instability – rapid shifts in the economic environment can lead to other threats and challenges, in the form of civil unrest and violence, or shortages of the resources necessary to assist in the event of emergencies, in terms of both people and supplies. Without preparations for these economic shifts, companies can quickly find themselves struggles to survive.
