The State to the Nation: A report from the New York Cyber Task Force highlights the national cyber response readiness

The New York Cyber Task Force, formed in the spring of 2020, has recently released a new report, titled “Enhancing Readiness for National Cyber Defense through Operational Collaboration.” Created in partnership with the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs, the report seeks to investigate the state of U.S cyber response readiness to national security challenges, with a particular focus on future threats and long-term preparedness, according to Security Magazine. A recommendation of the report was the creation of a full-nation approach to cyber security readiness, to help provide effective cybersecurity crisis response.

“An important contribution of the New York Cyber Task Force was testing some of the core recommendations of the Cyberspace Solarium Commission, particularly those that focused on public-private collaboration,” Erica Borghard, member of the NYCTF and Senior Fellow for the New American Engagement Initiative, Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, Atlantic Council, told Security Magazine. “The fact that the task force’s rigorous process validated those recommendations only further reinforces the critical importance of improving how the U.S. government works with the private sector on shared cyber threats. It also demonstrates the urgency of nominating a National Cyber Director and empowering that position to be the focal point within the Federal government for collaboration with the private sector.”
