The Price of Failure: A failed disaster recovery event can result in both disruptions to operations, and legal consequences

With events capable of causing major disruptions in operations becoming more common, whether due to natural disasters or cybersecurity threats, companies need to carefully consider the importance of having a robust disaster recovery plan. Whether due to loss of productivity, legal exposure, damage to reputation, or harm to clients and customers, not being prepared for a rapid recovery can cause significant financial challenges, according to an article in TechTarget.

Even when a plan is in place, regular testing of it must be performed. Otherwise, when needed, that attempted recovery can fail, potentially leaving an organization in an even worse place than before the recovery was attempted, with the whole recovery process potentially having to start over again.

When assembling your recovery plan, the article stresses that you should be sure to perform a detailed risk assessment, prioritize key infrastructure, and ensure all key resources are familiar with their roles and duties. Otherwise, the costs of recovery can be crushing.
