The Mind in the Machine: Companies continue to increase investment in artificial intelligence to help protect against cyberattacks

A study from the Capgemeni Research Institute has indicated businesses continue to increase their investment in artificial intelligence systems as a means to protect themselves against cyberattacks. The study, titled “Reinventing Cybersecurity with Artificial Intelligence: the new frontier in digital security” compiled inputs from 850 senior IT executives, including in-depth interviews with experts from industry, startups, and academia. Based on the responses, over two thirds of organizations see artificial intelligence as being critical for response to threats.

Other findings of the study include:

  • 56% of respondents indicating their cybersecurity analysts are overwhelmed by the number of points which needed monitoring
  • 61% of respondents seeing AI as being critical to identifying threats
  • 63% of organizations expect to deploy AI by 2020 to aid in cybersecurity
  • 48% of organizations intend to increase their budgets for AI in 2020 by almost a third.
