To learn how to lead better during times of crisis, where should we turn? According to Wayne Elsey, founder and head coach/CEO, the Funds2Orgs Group, the answer is humanity itself.
Writing for Forbes, Elsey notes that crisis is both a part of life and of business. And people, and specifically the human connection, are at the center of it. Tapping into that human connection is a crucial part of effective leadership during a crisis, he explains.
Even though business relationships are different from personal relationships, people need human connection – especially during challenging times. Creating a workplace environment that fosters trust and connection can help ensure there’s a strong bond between employers/leaders and employees.
Other ways to use the human element to create more effective crisis leadership include practising authenticity. Making people feel seen and heard by expressing solidarity and empathy for what they’re going through, can go a long way.
