In a world of increasing complexity, authors Gil Forer and Gautam Jaggi of EY say a lot of best practices may no longer work. They propose the idea of rethinking everything, daunting as it may sound, in order to thrive in the current business environment.
While this complexity is nothing new, Forer and Jaggi note that disruption has become more significant since 2020. The causes they cite include:
- Faster adoption of tech
- More significant risks, as well as more interconnected risks
- More complexity
Their rethinking approach suggests leaders need to assess their core assumptions about the world, along with their strategy and operations. This means asking questions, reshaping legacy attitudes and behaviors within organizations, and coming up with even more questions to drill down new strategies.
