The Future is Coming: Some predictions on the cybersecurity trends and issues in the coming year

With the year slowly ending, cybersecurity experts are already looking ahead to the challenges next year may bring. 

As COVID continues to reshape how workers interact with their company’s systems, and hackers adjust to new points of access and weaknesses in security, cybersecurity professionals may need to plan for challenges including the following, according to Security Magazine:

  • Cybercriminals expanding their efforts to exploit remote workers for access to corporate systems;
  • The use and refinement of corporate VPNs to limit access only to data deemed critical for user’s productivity;
  • A continued reduction in investments in IT and security;
  • Further targeting of the healthcare sector for ransomware and other attacks;
  • Continued breaches of financial sector organizations, due to the amount of valuable and exploitable personal records; and
  • COVID continuing to force further changes in how and where employees and customers access corporate resources.
