The Big Break

With awareness increasing as to the potential threats imposed by a major earthquake in the Cascadia Subduction Zone, the Cascadia Technical Academy has also been ramping up their efforts to encourage local families and business to get involved in emergency preparedness.

For that purpose, the Cascadia Technical Academy has recently unveiled their Emergency Operations Learning Center. Featuring state-of–the-art equipment, the learning center is intended to represent a functioning emergency operations center, and act as a forum for training for both students and community groups for a wide range of potential disasters – including disease outbreaks, earthquakes, or terrorist attacks.

“It’s really about having frameworks of how you address and prepare for emergencies. It’s really more of a cognitive preparation than any of our other programs,” says Cascadia Tech Academy interim director Mark Mansell.
