Team Rubicon, a veteran-led non-profit organization, seeks to both help people after disasters and provide comradeship and purpose to veterans

A recent article in GQ magazine embeds a writer with not-for-profit organization Team Rubicon, created and founded by veterans Jake Wood and William McNulty. The group volunteers across the US in disaster zones from Florida to Maui, and is veteran led and partially funded through partnerships with large corporations.

“We view the veteran as this incredible resource we can unlock,” Art delaCruz, Team Rubicon’s CEO, told GQ. “They might have taken off the uniform, but under that uniform were all these muscles they built—as a first responder, or as an infantryman, or a pilot, or a logistician.”

Writer Rosencrans Baldwin interviews several of Team Rubicon’s volunteers, following a group as they assist in disaster recovery after Hurricane Idalia hit Florida in August this year. The volunteers he spoke to talked about the ways the group provided connection and purpose in post-war situations. “Team Rubicon gives me something to look forward to,” an unnamed veteran told Baldwin. “It’s organizations like this that literally can save lives.”
