For a company to have an effective disaster recovery plan, it is critical that the executive suite be involved. However, a recent survey from Infrascale, as reported in Small Biz Trends, has indicated about one sixth of executives at SMBs aren’t aware of their recovery time objectives in the aftermath of a disruption, and roughly one fifth of respondents indicated they didn’t have a disaster recovery plan in place. With these gaps in knowledge, it’s questionable how prepared these organizations will be in the event of a disruption, especially since roughly half of respondents indicated they had experienced micro-disasters in the previous year.
Among the interesting findings within the survey was that there is not strong agreement as to what constitutes disaster recovery. While responses did vary between industries, the following results were discovered:
- 58% indicated disaster recovery meant recovering data after loss.
- 55% indicated it involved recovery from malware attacks.
- 54% said it involved making it possible to return to operation quickly.
No matter the meaning for a specific group, it is important organizations establish plans to help ensure they’ll be able to properly respond in the event of a disruption of their operations.
