Talk the Talk

In many cases, HR professionals have taken on a secondary role in the management of a company’s emergency management response system, instead allowing those in IT, security, or business continuity to take charge. However, given their role in flowing down company communications to employees, and promoting employee health and safety, HR personnel are a natural fit for ensuring the mass notification system is used in a proactive manner by their organizations. Writing for Workforce.com, Anne Pickren, president of enterprise solutions for OnSolve, offers four ways in which HR can maximize the benefits of such a system:

  • By keeping up to date employee records and information, and ensuring these records are maintained in a format compatible with the notification system, to ensure employee contact in the event of an emergency.
  • By ensuring employee notifications are through the most effective formats, whether email, text, messaging apps, or social media and, in the case of multi-national organizations, in the most appropriate languages.
  • By integrating emergency notification system seamlessly with existing HR applications.
  • By using the notification system to flow out educational and training material to employees, in advance of critical events.
