Taking Temperatures: Can your organization benefit from Hot Site disaster recovery?

While dedicated facilities for hot site disaster recovery used to be the most robust solution available for many organizations, improvements in other options for disaster recovery and business continuity have caused a shift away from these hot sites. They still have their role, however, for companies for which uptime is critical, like in financial services.

Relying on in-house data centers with full redundancy, Phil Goodwin, research director at IDC, notes at Tech Target, ”That means they are expensive and will be used for the most critical applications and those that require maximum or near continuous uptime.”

Due to these costs, many companies are instead moving to hybrid solutions, where hot sites are used for critical functions, with cloud based solutions instead being used for functions where uptime isn’t as vital.
