Student Cyber Safety

Now that the new school year has started, it’s important that students be reminded of the need for caution when using their electronic devices or when engaging with social media. While teens are frequently more familiar with new and emerging technologies than their parents, it’s still important for them to consider things such as:

  • Password Safety – whether through the use of strong passwords or password managers.
  • Mobile Safety – through setting passwords on smartphones, disabling Bluetooth when not in use, or considering using VPNs.
  • Computer Safety – via showing caution before clicking on unknown links or emails from unknown people.
  • Gaming Safety – by only downloading files from reputable sites, and avoiding disclosing personal information on gaming sites which could be linked to your real life.
  • Social Media Safety – through not connecting to people you don’t know, limiting information on your routines or movements, and not post anything that you wouldn’t want connected to your name.
