Looking to help improve IT security in the healthcare industry, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has released a new online kit, providing both information and guidelines for reducing cyber-risk, and various tools intended to help reduce the likelihood of successful cyberattacks. Developed with the support of both the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Health Sector Coordinating Council Cybersecurity (HSCC) Working Group, the toolkit includes:
- Vulnerability Scanning services.
- Details on best practices for cyber-resilience
- Frameworks for the assessment and implementation of cybersecurity and cyber-resilience, and integration with general risk management
Says Nitin Natarajan, CISA deputy directory, of the importance of cybersecurity in the healthcare sector, “Adversaries see healthcare and public health organizations as high value yet relatively easy targets – or what we call target rich, cyber poor.”
Natarajan also notes, “Given that healthcare organizations have a combination of personally identifiable information, financial information, health records, and countless medical devices, they are essentially a one-stop shop for an adversary.”
