People First: Psychology key for crisis management

When it comes to good crisis management, psychology is key, writes Jochen Schwenk, CEO of Crisis Control Solutions LLC & Schwenk AG, in a piece for Forbes. The human element, Schwenk explains, is a constant factor in any kind of crisis a business may face. Understanding that psychological piece can help leaders promote resilience among their team members.

Effective leaders, Schwenk writes, can significantly impact an organization’s response to a crisis by communicating efficiently, inspiring confidence and helping team members to avoid panic. Ineffective leaders can have the opposite effect and end up making matters worse.

Schwenk strongly believes that fostering psychological resilience in the workplace is crucial for crisis recovery. Some ways to do that, Schwenk recommends, include creating a supportive community at work, offering mental health resources and providing employee training tools that promote mental resilience and coping strategies.
