Looking into key topics and trends in cybersecurity, SecureAge has released the results of their new study, which polled members of the UK business world. Among their key findings was the increased prevalence of cyber breaches, with 48% of polled businesses reporting one. Says Nigel Thorpe, technical director at Secure Age, “A new wave of COVID-inspired cybersecurity threats put the most robust defences to the test and exposed failures in planning, training, tools and overall preparedness. The level of breaches and confusion among employees demonstrates how disorganised and fragmented the cybersecurity landscape has become.”
Importantly, many of these attacks started by aiming at employees working from home, who weren’t receiving the necessary levels of cybersecurity support. Less than 50% of employers admitting to providing formal training in basic cybersecurity matters, like detecting phishing attacks, or proper password security.
On a positive note, many companies said they expect to boost their investment in cybersecurity, with roughly two thirds of respondents planning increases. Says Thorpe, “A new wave of COVID-inspired cybersecurity threats put the most robust defences to the test and exposed failures in planning, training, tools and overall preparedness. The level of breaches and confusion among employees demonstrates how disorganised and fragmented the cybersecurity landscape has become.”
