Overseeing Disaster

When you’re putting together a disaster recovery plan, the insights of an outsider can often be of great benefit, as fresh sets of eyes can often identify holes and risks previously overlooked. However, with a huge number of these outside consultants to sift through, it can be a challenge to identify the one that most closely fits the needs of your organization and disaster recovery team. To help narrow down the search to only the best candidates, the following four items should be considered:

  • Is the consultant experienced with organizations within your field, and associated industry standards and priorities?
  • Does the consultant understand your key business needs, and are they able to create a robust, testable, and customized disaster recovery plan?
  • Is the consultant capable of promoting the needs of IT, and advocating for proper funding of disaster recovery activities?
  • Does the consultant have up to date knowledge of current techniques, and are they flexible in their approaches?

With the above, your company should be able to identify those with skills and approaches most capable of supporting the development of a comprehensive disaster recovery solution.
