The cost of a data breach could include the loss of future business, according to the results of a recent survey by KPMG. Based on the results from 2,004 online respondents in Canada, the survey reported that 84% of individuals would consider switching companies were their data lost in a breach. 90% of respondents also reported being reluctant to share their personal information with an organization that had suffered a data breach.
Among respondents, the loss of login credentials or passwords was also common, with about a quarter of people indicating they’d had their credentials stolen from a trusted site, and a majority reporting they had seen an increase in suspicious emails in recent months.
Says Nartaj Nijjar, national leader of KPMG’s cybersecurity practice, “Cyber criminals are ruthless. They’re after your identity, login credentials, money, and sensitive information.”
