On the Surface: Organizations are struggling to keep up with the increased number of points of access

A recent report has indicated many organizations are facing challenges with the management of increased numbers of attack surfaces caused by the rapid shift to cloud based or remote work environments in response to the pandemic. Produced by attack surface management firm Randori and reported on by CPO magazine, the findings summarize many of the issues facing cybersecurity teams and their concerns.

Of particular note is that roughly three quarters of respondents felt that under the current environment it is only a matter of time before their company would suffer a breach, and efforts are shifting towards mitigation and harm reduction strategies, rather than outright prevention. As a result, an increased emphasis is being placed on securing the most critical information, at the expense of other assets or services.

Other findings from the report include:

  • 74 per cent of respondents have seen an increase in attacks on their organizations since the pandemic started
  • 55 per cent have indicated protecting their attack surfaces has increased in complexity
  • 50 per cent have seen an increase in funding for cybersecurity measures
  • 25 per cent have seen a reduction in staff via layoffs.
