On Call: Deployable operations centers increase flexibility in disaster response

Keeping disaster response nimble with deployable operation centers could play a larger part in the industry as a whole, according to a recent article in State Tech Magazine. Written by senior business development strategist and public safety senior strategist, Houston Thomas III, the article develops the idea of deployable operations centers as both able to better access disaster areas to support first responders and also provide more onsite support for disasters requiring long-terms management and response.

“In the aftermath of an earthquake, hurricane, wildfire or other disaster that requires a prolonged response, a deployable operations center can serve as the nerve center for first responders. Each situation requires a unique set of equipment based on the agency’s needs,” writes Thomas III. “If an agency’s building is destroyed or rendered unusable in a disaster, a deployable operations center can support continuity of operations. In an emergency, agencies still must exercise command and control and will need communication tools, displays and other systems to work together.”
