Off Site and Out of Mind: Cybersecurity attacks continue to grow as employees work remotely

With many employees expecting to continue working remotely for the foreseeable future, cybercriminals are finding themselves with a wealth of opportunities, as the number of lightly protected access points has greatly increased. In response, many IT departments have had to change their protocols and plans to ensure more robust protection for those working offsite, and to reduce the threats posed by phishing attacks or data breaches.

This adjustment has resulted in the emphasis of the following aspects of cybersecurity management:

  • Improving data governance, to both assign responsibility for the data assets, and restrict unnecessary access.
  • Engaging in both patch and vulnerability management, to balance proactive and reactive responses.
  • Assembling proper incident response plans and procedures.
  • Prioritizing resources towards the areas of greatest benefit.
  • Developing a culture that values and emphasizes proper security.
