No Relief: Groups providing aid to both Israel and Gaza have been targeted by hackers

Multiple charities looking to provide emergency aid and relief within Israel and Gaza have found themselves targeted by hackers, looking to disrupt their websites and services, according to an article by Reuters. Non-profit United Hatzalah, which is based in Jerusalem and provides emergency medical services, has stated its website has been targeted by DDoS attacks, which have interfered with their ability to receive donations. British charity Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), which is helping provide emergency relief to Gazans has also noted its website has been under a cyber attack. Said Rohan Talbot, director of advocacy and campaign for MAP, “It is beyond disappointing that anyone should wish to disrupt the work of a humanitarian relief organisation, particularly during this unprecedented humanitarian crisis.”

Says Gil Messing, from cybersecurity firm Check Point, “There’s a lot of DDoS attacks happening now, focused on services that people are looking for: rescue services, telco, government services, media – anything that people need at this time.” Security analysts have been anticipating an increase in hacks and espionage in the aftermath of the attack by Hamas, and Israel’s activities within Gaza.
