New Year, New Plan:  With the calendar changing over, it’s time to review and update your business continuity plan

Business continuity plans should be regularly revisited, as the business landscape in general and company conditions in specific can change rapidly. Speaking of the current environment, Donald C. Bluedorn II told Smart Business, “Things are much different than a year ago, and along with business and operational contingencies, companies should review their legal and regulatory risks and opportunities as well.”

With organizations now having had almost a year to adjust to the new environment, Bluedorn notes there are many ways in which companies can update their plans, to consider whether recent changes or savings in operations could be sustainable, how returns to the physical workplace may create new challenges, or whether its time to revisit the company’s footprint.

Bluedorn also spotlights the importance of revisiting IT infrastructure, to ensure sufficient licenses and capacity to handle the needs of all employees, and cybersecurity planning, as the shift to offsite work in the pandemic has created many new points of attack for cyber criminals.

Above all, consider the effects of the changed environment on people, writes Bluedorn, and how sickness, remote work, and schedule flexibility may affect both your employees and your business continuity plan.
