Locked In: A new escape room delivered by the Volpentest HAMMER Federal Training Center adds new challenges to emergency response training

While almost any training is worthwhile, efforts are increasingly being made to make training sessions as realistic as possible, to better simulate the conditions people will find themselves under when an actual emergency hits. A recent upgrade in the training by the Volpentest HAMMER Federal Training site is looking to add that extra level of realism to their emergency response training, according to an article in World Nuclear News. Focusing on the site’s respiratory protection course, the training has been updated to incorporate an escape room style component, where trainees wear supplied-air equipment and work under time limits to complete their tasks. This extra component puts trainees under pressure to better consider how to use limited time and resources, in the event of a real emergency.

Says Paul Vandervert, director of HAMMER, to World Nuclear News, “HAMMER staff and worker-trainers frequently implement course improvements to meet the Hanford Site’s evolving training needs. Employee feedback on updates to the respiratory program course has been very positive.”
