Living on the Edge: Does your disaster recovery plan consider decentralization of resources?

The nature of disaster recovery plans has changed over the years, from an era where virtually all resources were hosted in house to the current era, where IT departments are supervising a blend of centralized, edge, and cloud-based technologies. This introduction of larger amounts of distributed computing strategies has upped the complexity of any disaster recovery plan, as the number of nodes and potential points of failure increases exponentially.

Writing for InformationWeek.com, Mary E. Shacklett, president of Transworld Data, offers a set of nine rules to consider around edge and cloud computing, when assembling a disaster recovery plan. These rules emphasize the complexity of providing a comprehensive data solution for a network that may be distributed over multiple regions, involving multiple cloud services and vendors, and the challenges of ensuring robust security software and physical security.
