Holiday Safety

With the holiday shopping season down to its final days, more and more people are turning to online to find that perfect gift, with the less cautious or lucky finding themselves victims of identity theft. To assist shoppers in ensuring their online shopping experience is a safe one, the Star Daily Standard Times has offered some tips:

•Protect your card number — shop only on secure domains, and don’t leave your card number on file with retailers;

•Credit, not debit — use your credit card for online purchases, to take advantage of the greater protections offered, and to prevent loss of access to bank accounts;

•Password protection — use unique passwords, and dual factor authentication when offered;

•Avoid public wifi — stick to secure networks where possible, or use a VPN to add your own encryption; and

•Update your anti-virus — ensure your own security is up to date.
