Hardened Defenses: The Russian invasion of Ukraine is also expected to result in an uptick in cyberattacks worldwide

With nation states and organized crime upping their efforts to launch cyberattacks in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine, governments and companies both need to pay extra attention to their cybersecurity defenses. Groups like Conti, a Russia affiliated ransomware gang, has even gone so far as to call for direct retribution against any government that is involved in sanctions against that nation, according to an article in Security Magazine.

With this threat rising, Security Magazine recommends reviewng your security planning, with a focus on these five regions:

  1. Analysis, to both improve threat intelligence, and integrate it into existing security solutions
  2. Detection, through the use of Sysmon, as deployed on both endpoints and servers
  3. Protection, via the use of account control so as to limit damage that can be caused by breaches
  4. Response, by establishing a centralized overview, and building in systems to detect patterns that may be indicative of an emerging threat.
  5. Recovery, by establishing the tools, procedures, and training necessary to help rapidly return affected systems to normal operation.
