Gone in 60 Seconds: A report from RiskIQ examines the speed at which new cybersecurity threats emerge

A new report from RiskIQ helps to establish the rapid growth of cybersecurity threats online. This report, referenced at the Evil Internet Minute 2020, offers a breakdown of both the number and type of threats that are emerging, estimating that roughly 375 new cybersecurity threats are occurring every sixty seconds.

The report also notes that COVID-19 seems to be a significant factor in these threats, as hackers look to use interest in the virus to drive people to malicious sites, or to gain access to accounts via phishing activities. In particular, 14.6 COVID-related hosts are created every minute.

On the defensive side, the report also notes some successes in protecting against emerging threats, with a COVID-19 related phishing domain being blacklisted an average of once every 15 minutes, and a mobile app being blacklisted every three minutes.
