Five Years Later

With Hurricane Sandy five years in the past, the Philadelphia Inquirer has assembled a detailed look back at both the initial and long term responses to Hurricane Sandy, as well as the work that remains to be done. Reviewing the reconstruction effort from multiple angles, staff writers Amy S. Rosenberg and Frank Kummer, has sought answers to such important questions as:

  • What happened to the disaster relief money that was provided, and why were there delays in helping low-income areas?
  • What else could the state have done to accelerate the response?
  • How were people affected by the reduced payouts for homes protected under the National Flood Insurance Program?
  • What resources are still available for residents in need of assistance?
  • Could different state leadership have resulted in a better outcome?
