Emergency Nomination

Writing for Forbes, University of Georgia’s atmospheric sciences program director Dr. J. Marshall Shepherd provides some details on the Trump Administration’s recent nominee for the role of FEMA Administrator, Brock Long.

The vice president of emergency management firm Hagerty Consulting, Long also has worked within state government, being the former head of the Alabama Emergency Management Agency, between 2008 to 2011. He is also experienced with large scale disasters, and has previously worked with FEMA as a Regional Hurricane Planner and Response Team Leader, and within Georgia as the Georgia Emergency Management Agency’s Statewide Planner/School Safety Coordinator

Former FEMA administrator Craig Fugate notes of Long that “Brock brings both State and FEMA experience to the job. He knows the programs and challenges he faces. He is an Emergency Manager.”

While his nomination has yet to be approved, Brock Long’s list of experience and qualifications offer encouragement for the continued development and improvement of FEMA, says Shepherd.
