Electronic Infections: What can your company learn about protecting itself from computer viruses from the pandemic response?

When thinking about computer viruses, it’s important to recognize the name was given to reflect how they act like medical viruses. When developing your company’s cybersecurity plan, keep that relationship in mind, and how it can shape your response. In an article on Tech Target, Nabil Hannan, managing director for NetSPI, suggests thinking of security testing like a doctor’s visit, with different levels of questions and tests aligning with levels of concern to help with diagnosis. Alternately, recognize that not all computer viruses are designed to cause immediate effects, with delays sometimes being built in to help delay detection. Additionally, always be aware that viruses may change over time, resulting in different effects, or requiring new means of detection.

While not a perfect parallel, considering the similarities between responses can help inform your cybersecurity plan, and prevent unnecessary outbreaks.
