Droning On and On

In a private/public partnership, the Kansas Department of Transportation has come to an agreement with AirMap to establish a statewide a statewide aerial drone management system. The first of its kind in the United States, this system is intended to use AirMap’s unmanned management technology to provide participating airports with digital flight notices, methods of communications with drone operators, and other capabilities for the purpose of improving safety. Training and safety-critical information will also be provided to drone operators.

The partnership “will support a strong foundation for air traffic safety in Kansas, said

Richard Carlson, Kansas Transportation Secretary. “Together, we will foster an environment that allows unmanned systems to contribute to the state economy.”

According to a press release from AirMap: “Already, the state is home to a thriving community of commercial drone operators, and forward-thinking Kansas agencies like the Department of Transportation are putting drones to work for infrastructure inspections and other public use cases. This new, first-of-its-kind collaboration will support the state’s ongoing efforts to welcome drones in safe, secure and efficient ways.”
