Disaster Preparedness Takes Off

New York has made a statewide commitment to emergency and disaster response, with the acquisition of the Onieda County Airport. Announced by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, the site will be used to develop and enhance the New York State Preparedeness Training Center’s capabilities and training operations.

As observed by Governor Cuomo to the Rome Sentinel, “Our first responders routinely put their health and well-being at risk in order to keep their fellow New Yorkers safe. This new facility will help ensure they have access to the latest and most up to date training and builds on our commitment to coordinate a more effective and streamlined emergency response at all levels of government.”

Assemblyman Anthony J. Brindisi noted to the Sentinel, “The New York State Preparedness Training Center in Oriskany is already the state’s premier training and educational center for first responders. Today’s announcement ensures that this center can continue to grow and provide state of the art, hands-on training exercises that will greatly improve the responsiveness of our law enforcement personnel.”

Prior to the acquisition of the airport, New York State had invested $30 million in the Oriskany site, to enhance and extend the capabilities and training offered.
