Cyber Schooldays

You’re never too young to start learning, and to make sure teens get that chance to learn, Delaware Governor John Carney has a new partnership between the state and the SANS institute to offer cybersecurity training to high school juniors and seniors, according to the Smyrna-Clayton Sun Times.

The training, available online, is intended to offer students the chance to learn basic cybersecurity skills, and to evaluate their aptitude and interest in the field. Structured as a game under the name CyberStart, the students will each be responsible for supervising a base, making decisions and solving challenges that will expand as the game progresses. Not requiring prior knowledge, the program will offer the opportunity for participants to share in scholarship pools for both cyber-education and college and graduate level training.

Says Delaware Chief Information Officer James Collins, “I applaud the SANS Institute for working to ensure the cyber workforce of tomorrow is available to protect our information and systems. The CyberStart program is an excellent and fun opportunity for students who think they may be interested in cybersecurity to determine if they have the passion and aptitude to pursue it as a career.”
