It’s far too common for people to be careless with cybersecurity. Whether it’s reusing passwords, clicking on unsafe links, or using unsecured devices or hot spots, people represent a major source of frustration to those responsible for securing a company’s digital properties. And until a company can convince those same people to care about cybersecurity, they’ll always be only one click away from a successful phishing or ransomware attack, according to an article in Forbes.
To help convince those same people as to the importance of cybersecurity, as it pertains to both the company and them as individuals, there’s a lot that can be done. Basic education on cybersecurity can be flowed out, making people aware of the need to carefully consider passwords and other methods of securing their devices, keeping up to date on patches, and the keys to safe browsing on the Internet. But above all of this is communicating how risks to a company’s cybersecurity also represents a risk to them. While it may not seem like a big deal to them if some data is stolen or lost, one of the best things a company can do to convince employees of the importance of cybersecurity is to point out the personal data that might be stolen from the company is theirs.
