Consider the Options: There’s no single thing that will stop all cybersecurity attacks, so a range of actions needs to be considered

With the costs of breaches growing, and budgets to prevent them often under pressure, companies can find themselves struggling to protect themselves from malicious cyberactivities, or to get back up and running smoothly after an attack, according to an article in Venture Beat. Says president and CEO of Absolute Software, Christy Wyatt, “When we’re talking to organizations, what we’re hearing a lot of is: How can we continue to increase resiliency, increase the way we’re protecting ourselves, even in the face of potentially either lower headcount or tight budgets? And so it makes what we do around cyber-resiliency even more important.”

Challenges are also present in balancing cybersecurity budgets between proactive and reactive strategies. A report from Boston Consulting Group found that the average cybersecurity budget invests 72% toward detecting and protecting against breaches, but only 18% on business continuity aspects. With these challenges and imbalances, it’s important to consider how you can maximize your cybersecurity resources and time. Whether through the hiring of people who have experience with responding to successful attacks, the incorporation of multi-factor authentication and password managers, the automation of patch management, or the adoption of zero-trust security, there are many opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of your cybersecurity teams.
