Connecticut Governor Participates in Statewide Drill

With emergency preparedness in mind, Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy announced a multi-day statewide drill in mid-October, designed to simulate the response to a tornado, according to the Fairfield Daily Voice.

Under the umbrella of Malloy’s Emergency Preparedness and Planning Initiative (available online at www.ct.gov/demhs), which was initiated in 2011, and organized through the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, the exercise will test the coordination of local and statewide participants.

Activities planned included:

•Reviews of the agencies emergency contact lists;

•Convening and updating Incident Management Teams;

•Coordination of emergency operations from the state Emergency Operations Center;

•Searching for victims in a collapsed building by the Urban Search and Rescue Team;

•Coordination and response to power restoration.

“As several recent storms and emergencies have shown us, all key stakeholders in the state must be prepared and ready at any given time for any type of sudden, unexpected situation, and that’s why it is imperative that we must come together and regularly conduct these drills to ensure that we have a coordinated response that can help limit the impact of potential disasters,” said Malloy.
