Most IT leaders have an Internet of Things security plan in place, but less than half of them (51%) say they feel confident in those plans, according to findings from a recent Viakoo survey.
In addition to the report showing a lack of confidence in IoT security plans, it also found that more than two-thirds (71%) of IT leaders say they wish they had started their IoT security plans differently so that they could improve vulnerabilities faster.
Other key findings from the report include:
- 55% of IoT cyber incidents could have been prevented with better security measures.
- 50% of IT leaders say IoT is the weakest part of their security.
- While spending on IoT security has been increasing, only 63% of boards feel they have enough information on IoT security to make informed decisions.
The survey, 2024 IoT Security Crisis: By the Numbers, was conducted by an independent research firm in November 2023 and gathered responses from 150 U.S. IT leaders at companies that use IoT.
