Coming Soon: Predictions on cybersecurity threats and trends for 2022 and onward

Each year brings new challenges to the cybersecurity industry: hackers evolve their tools and approaches, changing technologies or user habits create new vectors for attack, and new regulations change the burden of compliance on companies. Looking forward, Sam Olyaei, Research Director at Gartner Inc., offers some suggestions in IT World Canada as to how these issues may change the nature of cybertechnology and the world around it.

Moving from the short term to the longer term, Olyaei speculates on such changes as the increase in modern privacy laws to better cover the use and misuse of personal information around much of the world, to the increase in use of cybersecurity risk as a key factor in determining the use of third-party suppliers, to the continued growth of dedicated cybersecurity committees overseen directly by members of the board, all of which should improve the level of general security over the current state, as well as other potentially positive developments

Olyaei does also see some risks in the future, however, projecting that it’s only a matter of time before the growth and improvement of malware reaches a level where it can be the direct cause of human casualties.
