Coming Home: FEMA offers a tip sheet on what to look for when returning to your place of residence after a disaster

Looking to help those who have been temporarily displaced from their homes after a natural disaster, FEMA has released a new tip sheet offering advice on what to do and what to watch for. Focusing on safety, this sheet offers suggestions for immediate hazards both inside and outside, as well as some recommendations for both disposal of contaminated items, and approaches for cleaning surfaces which may have been exposed to mold.

Above all, the emphasis is on safety, with the recognition that whatever disaster caused the evacuation could also have caused dangers like gas leaks, electrical issues, or even rotting of floorboards, and so returning residents should take extra care to watch for these threats.
