As companies increasingly rely on the cloud for support of their critical services, it’s also increasingly important for companies to consider what they would do in the event of a service disruption, or even the complete loss of a service provider. Mark Dargin, writing for Network World, offers a list of key items to consider, when seeking a cloud services provider, including:
- What is the provider’s business model? Is it sustainable, and does it align with your long term business needs?
- How would your business handle a disruption in their services? Do you have a contingency plan, and have you identified which provided services are critical, and which services are secondary in importance?
- In the event of the provider going out of business, what provisions are made for retention and transfer of your data to other providers?
- Are multiple providers a better solution, to ensure redundancy and continuity in business?
While no provider can guarantee perfect service, by considering the above items, a business can minimize the risks to which they’re exposed, in the event of a loss of service.
