Children of Disaster: FEMA and Child Care Aware of America have partnered to create a disaster readiness toolkit

Looking to help Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (CCR&Rs) get back up and running as soon as possible after a disaster, FEMA and Chile Care Aware of America have combined forces to put together a disaster readiness toolkit. Focusing on FEMA’s Organizations Preparing for Emergency Needs training, this toolkit is guided by the 10 Preparedness Actions within, and offers a checklist, related activities, a business continuity template, and a list of supporting resources.

Altogether, this toolkit should provide a basic guide capable of helping CCR&Rs build business continuity and emergency preparedness plans, to allow them to get back to serving individuals and families in their communities who require assistance after a disaster.

As second responders, CCR&Rs act as social service providers, and assist in helping families with finding early care and education options, as well as working with child care providers to improve the quality of childe care services, while also providing information to public and private sectors to help guide planning and public policy.
