Changes to Security: The pandemic has driven what appears to be permanent changes for enterprise security

While many people will continue to move back to the office in the coming months, some of the changes to cybersecurity caused by the pandemic are here to stay. Whether increased reliance on the cloud, or an increase in remote access to company servers and resources, IT departments will need to keep supporting these changes, as organizations now rely on their availability to keep things going, and ensure robustness in preparation for the next disruption, according to an article in CSO Online.

These changes aren’t finished, though, as the changes already made will lead to further changes, in the face of increased threats and complexity. To help ensure proper data security, organizations can expect to:

  • Increasingly adopt zero-trust approaches for access to data and services
  • Change security to cover a broader set of attack surfaces
  • Respond to increased regulatory requirements for the protection of customer and client data
  • Integrate stronger encryption and authentication procedures
  • Improve network monitoring to identify threats at an earlier point
  • Regularly update risk management and business continuity plans to respond to changing environments
