Beyond Belief: Believing cybersecurity myths can easily lead to poor outcomes

It’s far too easy for someone to accidentally find themselves the victim of a hack or other cyberattack, whether they’ve made a simple mistake or overlooked something which they should have known. To help remind the experts and teach those who are less experienced, Kim Komando has put together a list of ten points to consider when thinking about cybersecurity at USA Today, including how:

  • Your personal data has value
  • Phishing scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated
  • Social media is a common vector for attacks
  • Password managers and two-factor authentication should be used wherever possible
  • Not all attacks will be detected immediately

As the number and type of attacks grow, the need for awareness of how your data is threatened continues to get more complicated. By being aware of these myths and tips, you won’t guarantee that you won’t be hacked, but you can help to reduce the risk.
